It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! The Salvation Army is getting into the Christmas spirit, with its annual gift-wrapping service set to begin in mid-December this year – and they need your help.
As part of the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal, Salvos have held a gift-wrapping service in Townsville shopping centres for the last 15 years. With stalls located in Castletown, Fairfield and Stockland shopping centres, all funds received go directly towards the Townsville community.
The gift-wrapping service raises funds for struggling Townsville families in 2023, together with Red Shield Appeal funds, we assist families / individuals across the local region with food and gift hampers for Christmas. We also have a Community Christmas Eve lunch at Riverway Corps and a Christmas Day lunch at the Faithworks Corps. There are many people in our community facing isolation and loneliness.
Christmas Hampers include a variety of food, toiletries, household products, Christmas decorations and parents/ carers come into our centre and pick out toys for their children. In 2022 we assisted 425 families / individuals in the Townsville District.
Your support of The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal can help ensure nobody struggles alone.
Gift-wrapping will be held at Castletown and Fairfield Central between 11 and 24 December 2023, and Stockland Shopping Centre between 16 and 24 December 2023.
Held between October and December each year, the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal funds vital support services and community programs. As the cost of living increases, more Australians are at risk of becoming lonely and disconnected during Christmas.
This appeal provides Christmas hampers, gifts for children and community Christmas lunches and events for those struggling during Christmas. It also contributes funds towards The Salvation Army’s other efforts, which include support for those struggling with family and domestic violence, homelessness, financial hardship, disaster and emergency relief and addiction.
Last year, The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal contributed more than 13,500 food hampers, 132,000 meals and over $1.7 million in financial assistance to individuals around Australia struggling at Christmas.
Help make someone’s Christmas this year and spread some cheer as a gift-wrapping volunteer.
