Local Business Backs Local Good with fortnightly “Thank You Thursdays” Initiative

Celebrating The Hero’s amongst us

A new partnership between The Cheesecake Shop Deeragun and Volunteering North Queensland is set to put generosity and gratitude firmly back on the menu.

Launched in late February, “Thank You Thursdays” will see The Cheesecake Shop Deeragun give away a cake every fortnight to a local charity or an individual volunteer who goes above and beyond for their community.

The initiative marks the first national brand partnership for Volunteering North Queensland and is designed to shine a light on the everyday people and organisations quietly making a difference across the Townsville region.

“Local business backing local charities, it sounds simple, but the impact is powerful,” said Anne Camplin who is president of Volunteering North Queensland.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our community, and this initiative gives us a joyful, visible way to say thank you.”

How it works

Every fortnight we draw a name to recognise someone doing great things in our community. All 392 Volunteering North Queensland members are automatically entered into the draw. Not a member? That’s OK! You can still be part of the fun.

Simply:

  • Visit The Cheesecake Shop Deeragun Facebook page
  • Nominate someone by name
  • Tag them in the comments or DM us with your phone number so we can contact you
  • Announcements will be made from the Deeragun store each fortnight and delivered to the Volunteer or Volunteer involving group

The Cheesecake Shop Deeragun says the idea grew from a desire to give back in a practical, heartfelt way.

“We’re proud to help create sweet memories for our community” Deeragun store representative Gul Saini “Rose” said. “This is about recognising the people who show up for others often without any recognition at all.”

“This is about creating a culture where giving back is normal, visible and celebrated,” Volunteering North Queensland said.

“And sometimes, the best way to say thank you is with cake.”

“Last year we did the HEROS Amongst us Volunteer Appreciation Tour, which was a great success, but unfortunately, we didn’t have the funding to roll this out again, so we pivoted and came up with another concept that will still have impact.”
