Volunteering North Queensland (VNQ) has welcomed the release of the State Government’s Parliamentary Inquiry into Volunteers, calling it a landmark moment for Queensland’s 3 million volunteers.
The report delivered eight recommendations, including two of VNQ’s key priorities:
• Improving operating conditions for Volunteer Resource Centre’s (VRCs)
• Adopting a whole-of-government approach to recognising, investing in, and supporting volunteers
VNQ Spokesperson, Margie Ryder, said this outcome was a direct result of persistent advocacy by Volunteers throughout Queensland, North Queensland and its fellow VRCs.
“This is our David vs Goliath moment. For years, regional VRCs have worked tirelessly, often with little recognition or support. To finally see Volunteer Resource Centres named in the recommendations is a huge win for our communities.”
The report also recognised the need for a statewide network of volunteer hubs, echoing VNQ’s call for sustainable, place-based models.
VNQ thanks the Queensland Government, particularly Minister David Crisafulli, and the Inquiry Committee for listening to the sector’s voice.
“Volunteering is the heart of Queensland,” Ms Ryder said. “These recommendations set the path for stronger, more resilient communities – powered by volunteers.”
